Suspicious package was empty, UCPD bomb squad finds

BERKELEY —

A suspicious package found this afternoon at Bancroft and Telegraph avenues was determined to be empty by the UCPD bomb squad shortly after 4:15 p.m.. UC police, who had advised people to avoid the area, have now declared it to be safe.

Another package was discovered earlier in the day at Bancroft and Shattuck Avenue, and was determined not to be an explosive device by the Berkeley Police Department, according to a Berkeley city official.
