Campus protest decries UC budget moves slide show

Hundreds of students, staff and faculty massed on Sproul Plaza Wednesday for a rally denouncing student fee hikes, program cuts, layoffs and other cutbacks across the UC system. The rally, smaller than a similar protest in September, was part of a three-day strike that resulted in some class cancellations or relocations and scattered office closures. It concluded with a march around campus and the departure of two buses full of protesters headed for the UC Regents' meeting at UCLA.

Regents' committee endorses fee increases, budget plan

Faced with a state funding gap of $1.2 billion next year, a UC Regents' committee voted Wednesday to increase student fees and adopt a financial plan that asks the state to fully fund the university's needs. The fee increases and a request for an additional $913 million in state funding are part of a 2010-11 operating budget that will go to the full Board of Regents on Thursday.
