New Energy Biosciences Building, Birgeneau Energy Garden dedicated
December 11, 2012: State legislators and city officials joined nearly 100 UC Berkeley researchers and administrators on Monday, Dec. 10, to dedicate the new Energy Biosciences Building and celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Energy Biosciences Institute, a partnership between the campus, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the energy company BP.
UCPath Center jobs-information session on campus tomorrow
December 11, 2012: The first of two information sessions about jobs at the new UCPath shared services center will be held on the Berkeley campus Wednesday, Dec. 12. Deadlines approach for applications for the jobs at the center, which is being opened at UC Riverside to handle payroll, human services and other functions for all 10 campuses.

Library opens 24/7 study spaces for RRR and finals weeks
Moffitt Library and Gardner (Main) Stacks offer extended hours for RRR week and finals week. They opened at 8 a.m. TODAY (Monday, Dec. 3) and will remain open continuously until Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. The Moffitt Microcomputer Lab and the Free Speech Movement Café will also be open round the clock.
UC Berkeley student among prestigious group of 2013 Rhodes Scholars
November 19, 2012: Daniel Price, a UC Berkeley senior majoring in engineering and physics, has been named a 2013 Rhodes Scholar. The Rhodes Scholarships, which are the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world, provide full financial support for students to pursue a degree at the University of Oxford in England.
Thnx4.org: An easy way to give thanks, and maybe improve your life
November 19, 2012: It’s Thanksgiving week, and UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center has gone live with Thnx4.org, an interactive gratitude journal. On the site, people are invited to say what they’re thankful for and share the posts with others — at the same time contributing to a national research project. Taking part, research shows, can affect lives for the better.
On America Recycles Day, EPA recognizes campus food waste reduction
November 15, 2012: On America Recycles Day, EPA regional administrator Jared Blumenfeld came to campus to laud Cal Dining’s food waste reduction program. UC Berkeley was among the first universities in the nation to sign onto EPA’s Food Recovery Challenge, which encourages everyone to reduce both pre-consumer and post-consumer food waste.
Esa-Pekka Salonen, conductor and composer, moves in for the weekend
November 14, 2012: Conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen, considered one of the world’s most brilliant musicians, spent four days at UC Berkeley in a Cal Performances Orchestral Residency that became a whirlwind of concerts and appearances featuring some of his own compositions, with performances by the Philharmonia Orchestra and student musicians.
Community-partnership fund seeks grant proposals
The Chancellor’s Community Partnership Fund seeks proposals for its 2013-14 grant cycle, for town-gown partnerships of benefit to the local community. Pre-application forms are due Dec. 3.
