UC Berkeley In Brief
Online voting resource guide to Feb. 5 California ballot initiatives published by IGS Library
BERKELEY – On Super Tuesday, February 5, besides choosing a U.S. presidential candidate, California voters face a line-up of ballot propositions — this time on transportation and community college funding, term limits, and Indian gaming.
A website created by UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies Library — Hot Topics: February 2008 Ballot Measures — offers comprehensive information on the seven initiatives on the Feb. 5 ballot. The site includes historical background on each proposition, summarizes arguments for and against, and provides links to further analysis, endorsements, campaign committees, and financial data.
The IGS Library has been creating Hot Topics packages on state ballot propositions since 2000. "Voters are confronted with confusing and sometimes difficult-to-interpret ballot measures," says librarian Nick Robinson. "We try to clarify what they're being asked to decide and give them links to different perspectives that are being presented."
