Breslauer, Wilton on Albany mixed-use development

May 15, 2013:

In a letter released earlier today, George Breslauer, UC Berkeley executive vice chancellor and provost, and John Wilton, vice chancellor, administration and finance, promise to “continue to work collaboratively with the City of Albany and others to stay the course and fulfill the community desires for development on this site.”

Berkeley SHIP 2013-14 details announced

May 16, 2013:

Chancellor Birgeneau recently announced that Berkeley would leave UC SHIP and return to a campus-based student insurance plan for the next academic year. Details of the campus plan, to be implemented in August, can be found in this post from University Health Services.

Trespassers removed from Albany mixed-use development site

May 13, 2013:

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday, 20 people were asked to leave the mixed-use development site in Albany or face arrest. Over the course of the morning, three people were arrested for trespassing and interfering with the police

Committee named to find Berkeley’s next provost

May 6, 2013:

A committee of Berkeley administrators, faculty, students and staff has been formed to advise Chancellor-designate Nicholas Dirks on the search to replace Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George Breslauer, who has announced his intention to retire at the end of 2013.

CalMessage from UCPD Capt. Margo Bennett says “non-specific, anonymous bomb threat” included “no verifiable information.”

CalTime to get expedited rollout

October 25, 2012:

To comply with recent decisions at the UC systemwide level, UC Berkeley is planning to move to a bi-weekly pay cycle for non-exempt employees (those eligible to earn overtime). These changes will result in an expedited rollout of CalTime.

Systemwide survey looks at campus climate

October 15, 2012:

Over the next five months, UC students, faculty and staff will be surveyed about their school and workplace experiences in what is believed to be the largest study of institutional climate ever conducted. The results will be used to enhance the atmosphere of inclusiveness and respect at every UC campus and location.

UC Berkeley joins Harvard and MIT not-for-profit online learning collaborative

July 24, 2012:

UC Berkeley today has joined edX, a not-for-profit online learning initiative founded by Harvard University and MIT and launched last May. The campus will collaborate with edX to expand the number of universities that offer their courses on the edX platform. In a press release issued by edX, Chancellor Birgeneau said the campus is “committed to excellence in online education and the dual goals of distributing higher education more broadly and enriching the quality of campus-based education.”

Regents endorse state budget, Prop. 30

July 19, 2012:

In a single vote, the board endorsed the state’s 2012-12 UC appropriation, supported Gov. Brown’s revenue measure and agreed to freeze mandatory systemwide student charges at 2011-12 levels, contingent on passage of the initiative.

Jeffrey Edleson named to head Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare

June 21, 2012:

A leading authority on domestic violence who graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley in 1974, Edleson is set to return to campus as dean, effective Aug. 1.

Police board calls for tighter oversight on use of force in student protests

June 6, 2012:

Commissioned by Chancellor Robert Birgeneau after the events of Nov. 9, 2011, the 36-page report calls on campus administrators to do more to articulate “strictly confined limits” on police tactics during protest events.

Chancellor expresses concerns about proposed constitutional amendment

May 24, 2012:

Chancellor Birgeneau responds to a proposed amendment to the state’s constitution that would restrict the enrollment of out-of-state and international students on UC campuses.

Chancellor search panel sets second ‘listening session’
