Writing from L.A. following the closing ceremony, the Cal Team co-captains describe what it takes for a team of “roadies” to park 2,500 bikes, and how each day of the ride is organized. We meet one particularly inspiring rider, and hear their final reflections on the 2011 AIDS LifeCycle.

Cal road warriors: Stranded on a sag bus, moved by a memorial

June 13, 2011:

Though you may aspire to ride every one of those 545 miles to L.A., sometimes you just can’t. A Cal Team member with an injured knee reports on Day 6 of the AIDS LifeCycle; two more describe a moving ceremony, on Ventura beach, to the sound of crashing waves.

Cal road warriors: Riders and ground support go rouge

June 10, 2011:

Cycling 550 miles is a challenge, but what about parking and protecting 2,500 bikes? A Cal Team “roadie” compares the challenges of pedaling with those of providing ground support. And three more Bears recall the fun of donning crimson on AIDS LifeCycle’s Red Dress Day.

Cal road warriors: Halfway to L.A., there’s no turning back

June 9, 2011:

Riders clocked 97 miles, and passed the half-way mark to L.A., on Day 4 of AIDS LifeCycle 2011. Two members of the Cal Team recount a day of gluttony and fun — and a pair of challenging hills known as the Evil Twins.

Cal road warriors: Fried artichokes, a flat tire, high spirits

June 7, 2011:

As they pedal south from S.F. to L.A., grad student Araba Nti and alumna Joanne Yeung describe the trials and joys of the AIDS LifeCycle’s Day 2. The two are part of the 28-member Cal Team, which this year raised $95,000 to support HIV/AIDS services and promote HIV/AIDS awareness.
