September 4, 2012:

A new study, published in the Economic Journal, shows that crowd-sourced online review websites play an important role in consumer decisions. An analysis of 328 restaurant reviews on Yelp found that an increase of a half-star in ratings corresponded to a 19 percent greater likelihood of selling out during peak dining times.

6.3 million Californians lack access to workplace retirement plan, Labor Center research finds

June 7, 2012:

Some 6.3 million Californians lack access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan, according to a new study released today by UC Berkeley’s Center for Labor Research and Education.

Campus adds AT&T Wi-Fi alongside Airbears in law, business schools

February 2, 2012:

The campus has added AT&T Wi-Fi Services to the wireless infrastructure in the Haas School of Business and Boalt Hall to give students, faculty and staff additional connectivity options. The rest of the campus will receive this service over the next 16 months. Both AT&T SSID (attwifi) and AirBears will be carried by the campus high-speed data network.

Climate change and business research initiative gains traction

January 6, 2012:

Environmentalists and corporations don’t always see eye-to-eye on climate change. But the Climate Change and Business Research Initiative has shown that the two sides’ objectives can not only co-exist, but be mutually beneficial. The program — connecting leaders from business, government, nonprofits — is run jointly by the law schools at UC Berkeley and UCLA.

Easily embarrassed? Study finds people will trust you more

September 28, 2011:

If tripping in public or mistaking an overweight woman for a mother-to-be leaves you red-faced, don’t feel bad. A new UC Berkeley study suggests that people who are easily embarrassed are also more trustworthy, and more generous.

In short, embarrassment can be a good thing.

MBA students, Haas School faculty win sustainability research grants

April 22, 2011:

The Haas School of Business’s Center for Responsible Business made an Earth Day announcement today (Friday, April 22) that several MBA students and Haas School faculty have won research grants to work on innovative sustainability projects dealing with reinforcing friends’ healthy habits to green supply chains and clean water.

April 7, 2011:

The MBA website Poets & Quants has named Terry Taylor, a faculty member at Berkeley’s Haas School, among the 40 top business professors under 40.
