Fifty years ago, President Kennedy addressed an audience of 88,000 at Memorial Stadium, offering hope for peace and praising the people of California for supporting the state’s colleges and universities.

In celebration of Charter Day, marking UC’s 143rd birthday, students consumed a large quantity of free cupcakes Friday on Sproul Plaza. The University of California was founded in 1868, and soon set up shop at Berkeley.
