Ashok Gadgil, a UC Berkeley engineering professor and a division director at Lawrence Berkeley Lab, has won the Lifetime Achievement Award of the 2012 Zayed Future Energy Prize, given for innovation, leadership and vision in renewable energy and sustainability. Gadgil was recognized for his sustainable humanitarian work in Darfur, providing healthier, energy-efficient “Berkeley-Darfur” cooking stoves. More than 1,100 nominations were submitted for prize.
