UC Berkeley on May 11 announced a new research initiative that will make it a worldwide leader in disability studies. It includes two new faculty positions and multidiscipinary research projects related to disability that involve 10 faculty members from eight campus units. The effort will be housed in the Haas Diversity Research Center.

July 27, 2010:
Disability-rights pioneer Ed Roberts, who was a Cal alum, will be recognized each year on Jan. 23 with a commemorative day on which the state’s schools will offer education on disability history, rights, and legal requirements. The California State Legislature unanimously passed the bill, which Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed on July 19.
