Haas shows off its foodie side

Organic candy bars. Fair-trade shrimp. Mushrooms grown in coffee grounds. These are just a few of the culinary concepts that Haas alumni have been cooking up recently to satisfy—and capitalize on— our nation’s seemingly endless appetite for innovation in the food world. The spring edition of the relaunched Berkeley-Haas magazine offers a taste of their enterprising ideas.

SkyDeck captures East Bay Catalyst Prize for supporting startups

Skydeck, the UC Berkeley startup accelerator in downtown Berkeley, won the Catalyst Award at the first-ever East Bay Innovation Awards celebration.

Update on Tuesday’s shooting at UC Berkeley

November 16, 2011:

UC Berkeley police released more details about the student who was shot Tuesday at the Haas School of Business and later died at Oakland’s Highland Hospital. The student, 32-year-old Christopher Nathen Elliot Travis, was an undergraduate at UC Berkeley majoring in business. UC Berkeley Police Capt. Margo Bennett said Travis was carrying a loaded, semiautomatic handgun – a 9 mm Ruger – when he was shot multiple times by a UC Berkeley police officer in a Haas computer lab.

Haas School community saddened by events of Nov. 15

Shaken by Tuesday’s fatal shooting at the Haas School of Business, some 200 of the school’s staff, students and faculty gathered Wednesday morning to discuss the tragic event, only to be stunned again to learn the victim was one of their own.

Gun-wielding man shot by police has died, was a student

November 16, 2011:

UC Berkeley officials on Wednesday identified the man who wielded a gun at the Haas School of Business and was shot by university police on Tuesday as an undergraduate transfer student. Christopher Nathen Elliot Travis, 32, died Tuesday night after being transported to Highland Hospital.

Chamberlin Fund launches exploration of online education for Berkeley professional schools, extension program

August 16, 2011:

Highly qualified students from around the world could have greater access to programs at the University of California, Berkeley professional schools and through UC Berkeley Extension, thanks to $1 million from the Chamberlin Family Donor Designated Fund at the University of California, Berkeley Foundation.
