IST announces changes to campus-supported cellular service
August 30, 2012:
AT&T and Verizon Wireless will be the exclusive providers of cellular devices and plans offered through Information Systems and Technology for university-owned cell phones, effective Dec. 1, 2012. Departments that want to switch from their current carriers to AT&T or Verizon Wireless, or to remain with other carriers, need to take action by that date.

IST head Shel Waggener to leave campus post at end of April

UC Berkeley’s Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, Shelton Waggener, has accepted the position of Senior Vice President of Internet2, a national education-networking and technology-services provider. Lyle Nevels will serve as interim AVC-CIO beginning May 1.
Tech Commons to facilitate campuswide IT collaboration
September 14, 2011:
IT staff in small units across the Berkeley campus lack a common, easy-access space for sharing information about technology problems and solutions. In mid-September, IST will launch Tech Commons, a campuswide, community-sourced application for sharing and reviewing technology tools and products.
Campus data center powering down on Sunday, June 12
June 7, 2011:
To facilitate the replacement of core power and cooling components, IST has scheduled a full power outage to the campus data center on Sunday, June 12, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. While some key systems and network services are expected to remain available during the outage, many other systems will be offline during this 8-hour window.
Data-center power outage planned for June 12
April 25, 2011:
A full power shutdown of the campus data center, lasting for up to eight hours, is planned for Sunday, June 12. The shutdown will allow for replacement of some core components of the power infrastructure, with the goal of maintaining a highly secure, readily available, and network-redundant service.
