Louisiana Tech’s Sonny Dykes picked as Tedford’s replacement

Sonny Dykes, who directed the nation’s top-ranked scoring offense at Louisiana Tech this past season, has been named head football coach at UC Berkeley, Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour announced Wednesday.

Work crews readying Memorial Stadium for the first home game, Sept. 1, are on a 10-day mission to lay state-of-the-art synthetic turf on the football field. The project began months ago, when the field was dug up and lowered and an extensive infrastructure for game operations was installed.

In response to a Wall Street Journal article earlier this week on the financing plan for California Memorial Stadium, UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor John Wilton has submitted a letter to the editor expressing his displeasure with the misrepresentation of the project, and the Athletic Department has prepared an FAQ on the project’s financial model.

The BBC lands a helicopter at Memorial Stadium

The BBC was on campus Thursday to film a segment about seismic activity for the program “Naked Earth.” As part of the shoot, they landed a helicopter in the middle of Memorial Stadium.

Campus, neighborhood association settle stadium dispute

April 8, 2010:

UC Berkeley and the Panoramic Hill Association have reached a legal settlement agreement that resolves issues related to recent litigation, and establishes parameters for the use and operation of California Memorial Stadium after extensive seismic retrofitting and renovation work is completed in 2012.
