Using atomic force microscopy, chemist Felix Fischer and physicist Michael Crommie have for the first time captured images of molecules before and after they react, which will allow chemists to better tune reactions to get the products they want.

GRIN plasmonics paves way for exotic optics

Engineers at UC Berkeley and LBNL have demonstrated a new microscopy technique using gradient index (GRIN) plasmonics that could lead to high-powered lenses capable of imaging DNA molecules with visible light. The achievement could also help pave the way for the development of invisibility devices.
