Artificial intelligence expert Robert Wilensky dies at 61

March 25, 2013:

Robert Wilensky, UC Berkeley professor emeritus of computer science and one of the campus’s first faculty members in the field of artificial intelligence, has died at age 61.

Garniss Curtis, pioneer of precision fossil dating, has died at 93

February 26, 2013:

UC Berkeley geologist Garniss H. Curtis, a professor emeritus of earth and planetary science who pioneered the use of radioactive isotopes to date relatively young rocks, thereby providing the first solid timeline for human evolution, died Dec. 18 in Orinda, Calif., at the age of 93.

Former campus spokesman and Cal booster Ray Colvig has died

March 5, 2012:

Ray Colvig, who for 27 years was the spokesman for UC Berkeley and a beloved leader of the campus’s Public Information Office until his retirement in 1991, died Sunday, March 4, of sudden heart problems at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley. He was 80.

Feb. 27 campus memorial to honor former chancellor I. Michael Heyman

February 16, 2012:

A public memorial honoring the life of I. Michael Heyman, the sixth chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, at the International House, located in the southeast corner of the UC Berkeley campus.

F. Warren Hellman, philanthropist and friend of UC Berkeley, passes away

December 19, 2011:

UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau issued a statement on the passing of his dear and trusted friend, Warren Hellman.

Paleontologist and sustainability advocate Bill Berry dies at 79

June 1, 2011:

William B. N. Berry, a paleontologist and long-time advocate of environmental sustainability, died of cancer on May 20 at the age of 79. Berry was former director of the Museum of Paleontology, chair of the Department of Paleontology and director of the Environmental Studies Program.
