Stanley Hall reopens after diesel fuel spill, cleanup efforts being assessed

Finals exams are underway at Stanley Hall, which reopened today following a weekend diesel fuel spill inside the building. A multi-agency crew is assessing cleanup efforts along Strawberrry Creek and at the Berkeley Marina, where some fuel traveled following the spill.
New grant funds research into gulf spill aftermath
September 8, 2011:
Two UC Berkeley researchers are getting $860,000 over three years as part of a research consortium formed after last year’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Allen Goldstein will study the evaporation of oil into the atmosphere, and Evan Variano will investigate the dispersion of oil in the water column. Goldstein holds a joint appointment as a professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management and in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Variano is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Tiny foraminifera shells can help assess recovery after oil spill
September 15, 2010:
Pinhead-size marine organisms called foraminifera have been used to monitor pollutants in marshes and oceans, and could help to assess recovery in the Gulf of Mexico following the three-month long Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
