Intent on creating a safe space for students to learn and talk about a fractious issue — the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — Shannon Thomas founded a student organization at Berkeley. A double major in peace and conflict and Middle Eastern studies, and a Model U.N. delegate, she sees fostering peace as her path.

Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi to speak

Leader of the Burmese democracy movement and 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi will speak to Berkeley for the first time in a live phone interview on Monday, March 7, as part of a DeCal course. RSVPs are required to connect with the tele-event.
