QB3 helps local workers retool for new careers

August 13, 2012:

Laid-off workers are getting hands-on training in microfabrication at Berkeley’s Biomolecular Nanotechnology Center through a collaborative technical-education initiative with Oakland’s Laney College.

Biophysicist Carlos Bustamante awarded 2012 Sackler Prize

September 13, 2012:

Carlos Bustamante will share the Raymond and Beverly International Sackler Prize in Biophysics for his “seminal contributions to single molecule biophysics.”. Bustamante is a professor of molecular and cell biology, physics and chemistry, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator and member of the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences.

QB3 director Susan Marqusee honored for research, mentoring

April 10, 2012:

Susan Marqusee, a professor of molecular and cell biology and director of the Berkeley branch of QB3 (California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences) has received the William C. Rose Award of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She was recognized for her studies of protein structure and for her encouragement of the next generation of scientists.

Training program at QB3 sets displaced workers on a new course

September 9, 2011:

A specialized training program at UC Berkeley’s Biomolecular Nanotechnology Center this summer gave a group of displaced workers, all Laney College students, a potential new career. Already, two students have received job offers as a result.

Deloitte offers to turn QB3 into “innovation ecosystem”

April 15, 2011:

The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), which has branches at UC Berkeley, UCSF and UC Santa Cruz, will work with Deloitte to improve the institute’s efforts to convert bioscience innovation into a driver for jobs, companies and improved health in California.

The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) celebrates a decade of driving the bioeconomy and spells out its goal of helping the state foster science and innovation to benefit society.

Biotech incubator opens its doors at UC Berkeley

May 5, 2010:

UC Berkeley’s QB3 will launch a biotech incubator on May 6, hoping to duplicate the success of a similar incubator at QB3′s Mission Bay outpost. UC Berkeley grad Wesley Chang, CEO of the start-up Aperys, LLC, is the first tenant of the QB3 Garage@Berkeley.
