$2.5 million grant to improve traffic safety

August 17, 2012:

California’s Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has awarded nearly $2.5 million in grants to two research and education centers affiliated with the Institute of Transportation Studies to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers. The Safe Transportation Research & Education Center (SafeTREC) and the Technology Transfer Program (Tech Transfer) will use the funds to study better ways to prevent crashes and to help local agencies identify potentially hazardous surface roadway conditions.

Big grant for Big Data: NSF awards $10 million to harness vast quantities of data

March 29, 2012:

Never before has data analysis been so hot. The quest to capture the massive amounts of data being produced in our world — and thus unveil answers to some of society’s most vexing problems — has gotten a $10 million boost, via a National Science Foundation award to UC Berkeley.

Limb regeneration and attosecond research each get $1 million from Keck Foundation

January 27, 2010:

Two UC Berkeley research projects that push the boundaries of their fields have each received $1 million grants from the W.M. Keck Foundation. One grant will fund research on limb and organ regeneration, while the other will support a laser laboratory that probes the movement of electrons on the attosecond timescale.
