Benda Prize, which is awarded annually to an outstanding young scholar for a first book in the field of Southeast Asian Studies. Hadler is being honored for "Muslims and Matriarchs," which explores the social history of the Minangkabau of West Sumatra.  UC Berkeley is now the world's only university to have three Benda Prize recipients on its faculty.]]></description>
