Pac-12 Networks to showcase conference schools

July 28, 2011:

The Pac-12 Conference announced July 27 the creation of Pac-12 Networks, which will provide unprecedented exposure for each of the league’s institutions in both the athletic and academic arenas. Under the agreement, four of the largest cable operators will eventually telecast 850 live collegiate sporting events a year.

Cal Athletics places 3rd in Directors’ Cup standings

July 1, 2011:

With top-10 finishes in 14 different sports, including national championships in rugby and men’s and women’s swimming & diving, Cal Athletics has posted its highest finish ever in the Directors’ Cup, taking third overall in rankings that measure overall success in intercollegiate athletic programs nationwide

Cal’s season ends with 8-1 loss to Virginia

June 24, 2011:

California baseball saw its season come to an end with an 8-1 loss to top-seeded Virginia in an elimination game at the College World Series Thursday.

Cal tops Aggies, 7-3, in College World Series

June 21, 2011:

Kyle Porter and Derek Campbell led Cal to a 7-3 victory over Texas A&M on Tuesday for the Golden Bears’ first win at the CWS since 1980. Hours earlier, Cal’s David Esquer was named National Coach of the Year.

Cal baseball loses to Virginia, 4-1, in College World Series

June 20, 2011:

The California Golden Bears battled the No. 1-seeded team of the College World Series for six scoreless innings Sunday before falling to Virginia, 4-1.

June 9, 2011:

The Cal Bears baseball team, trailing Baylor in the bottom of the ninth, got a miracle ending — and the KALX-FM game-call it deserved, by an ecstatic and hoarse Danny Freisinger (“Fry”), a senior who will call the games this weekend as Cal faces Dallas Baptist in the Super Regional playoffs in Santa Clara. Cal’s Juricova wins 2011 NCAA singles championship

May 31, 2011:

Top-seeded and No. 1-ranked California women’s tennis junior Jana Juricova captured her second singles national title as the winner of the 2011 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships on May 30.

Bears earn 26th national rugby title

May 23, 2011:

The Golden Bears won the 2011 national collegiate championship May 21, by defeating Brigham Young, 21-14, in Utah. Flyhalf James Bailes was named MVP, as California earned the 26th title in program history.

Pac-12 signs new media rights deal; how it impacts Cal

May 5, 2011:

The landmark media rights package announced May 4 by Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott will benefit all members of the conference by generating new revenues, expanding the reach of the conference and providing more national exposure, Cal’s Intercollegiate Athletics office reports.

Men’s gymnastics program to continue at UC Berkeley

May 2, 2011:

As a result of fundraising efforts that have raised in excess of $2.5 million, the men’s gymnastics program at UC Berkeley will be preserved as an Intercollegiate Athletics sport, campus officials announced Monday.

In a happy reversal, Cal baseball called safe

April 8, 2011:

In the wake of a full-tilt fundraising campaign, spearheaded by former Bear pitcher Stu Gordon, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau declared Friday that Cal baseball is here to stay, after all. Donors pledged some $9 million in six weeks; a formal announcement of the chancellor’s decision will come once another $1 million is raised.

Baseball program will continue at UC Berkeley

April 8, 2011:

Baseball will continue to represent UC Berkeley as an Intercollegiate Athletics sport, now and into the future, as the result of a successful and ongoing fundraising effort on the part of alumni, former players, parents of current players and other team supporters, campus officials announced Friday.

Cal men, women capture NCAA team titles in swimming and diving

March 29, 2011:

Separate NCAA championship meets, in cities halfway across the country and a week apart, ended with the same result: a national title for the UC Berkeley men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams.

Three UC Berkeley athletic teams to be preserved

February 11, 2011:

Three athletic teams at UC Berkeley, slated to cease intercollegiate competition at the end of this academic year – women’s lacrosse, women’s gymnastics and rugby – will be preserved, campus officials announced Friday.

Chancellor Birgeneau writes to the campus community regarding Friday’s announcement that men’s rugby, women’s gymnastics and women’s lacrosse will continue as intercollegiate varsity sports at Cal.

Teri McKeever named head coach of 2012 U.S. women’s Olympic swim team

December 9, 2010:

Cal swim coach Teri McKeever will lead the U.S. women’s Olympic swim team at the 2012 London Olympics, USA Swimming announced Wednesday. This is the third Olympic coaching stint for McKeever, who served as assistant coach in 2004 and 2008.
