New math/science teachers win big grants

July 5, 2012:

Two young math and science teachers fresh from UC Berkeley’s CalTEACH program have won $175,000 fellowships designed to help them remain in the teaching profession over the long term and bolster STEM education in the schools.

Building an LGBT community for STEM majors

April 30, 2013:

An appreciation for diversity and a passion for energizing student life led Paul Zarate,a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, to found the Berkeley chapter of Out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (oSTEM), a national organization dedicated to the professional development of LGBT students.

UC mentors next generation of women in STEM fields

October 12, 2012:

A nationwide online mentoring program, Women in Technology Sharing Online (WitsOn), seeks to connect women students pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degrees with women leaders from academia and industry. Students and faculty from Berkeley and seven other UC campuses are participating.

Five undergrad women named Berkeley’s first Bergeron scholars

June 12, 2012:

This year’s scholars are the first women to benefit from a program funded by Sandra and Douglas Bergeron in fall 2011to provide scholarships, program support and mentorships to five undergraduate women each year pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Endowment for undergraduate women studying science, tech, math

January 11, 2012:

A scholarship-mentorship endowment for undergraduate women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is being offered at the UC Berkeley. Five students will be selected each year for the endowment, established by Silicon Valley executives Sandra and Douglas G. Bergeron.

Cal Alumni, Chevron partner on new STEM scholarships

April 12, 2011:

At the April 9 Charter Gala honoring U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Chevron Corp. announced a $100,000 contribution to the Cal Alumni Association’s Achievement Award Program to promote science, engineering, technology and math education.
